Abstract
The potential of communities to prevent and protect against domestic violence needs to be nurtured, mobilised and organised. This requires community organising (CO), a concept that has worked for many decades. CO is about bringing people together to transform socially unjust conditions by building strong relationships through hundreds of meaningful conversations, door-knocking campaigns, bottom-up collective action and creating positive change. It goes beyond the concept of community work as it is known in social work, although there are some parallels.
